FCCJBL Flash - June 15th #2 - Champions, Awards Breakfast and More...

fccjbl medium logo
FCCJBL Flash
June 15, 2010
Dear Fans,

Hello Baseball Fans!!!!

Championship Sunday was quite a day.  From the pre-game show with former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy throwing out the first pitch to the National Anthem and Hatikvah being led by Jonathan Cahr (of the What's Up Band) and the Ma Nishma choir to some amazing play on the field especially the continuation of the rain-suspended Minor League playoff game between Stop & Shop and F.D. Rich

Over 2 Sundays and 7 innings, Stop & Shop won 9-8.  The kids from both teams were great but totally exhausted from this game.  We decided not to play the planned Championship and Consolation games because the kids were wiped out and it would not have been fair to have them play any more.

We declared the 2 playoff finalists, Stop & Shop and Vision Financial as co-champions for 2010.  Vision and Northwestern Mutual, both with fresh kids who had not played yet on Sunday, played each other instead.  The game was suspended due to rain in the 3rd inning with the score tied 5-5.  This game too was amazing as the winless Northwestern Mutual team had come back from a 5-0 deficit to tie the score when the rains came.

In the Majors, Firefly Pediatrics won the Championship with a 7-3 victory over the Goldman Gruder & Woods team.

Elsewhere around the league, our Intro and T-Ball kids played their final games and showed so much improvement from the start of the season.

While our games are done, we still have the Awards Breakfast this Sunday and some other activities planned for later in the year.   See more below...

Upcoming Events - Jewish Heritage Day at CitiField - Sunday, August 29th - More than just going to the game...

The FCCJBL along with numerous Fairfield County synagogues and Jewish organizations are going to buy tickets to attend the Sunday, August 29th Mets / Astros game at 1:10 pm.  This is Jewish Heritage Day at CitiField which now has a long standing tradition with the Mets.

Jonathan Cahr of the What's Up Bank is working with several community leaders (the Commish included) to take an offer from the Mets to be able to sing two songs on the field with as many children as we can bring (all must be paid attendees).  This will most likely include the National Anthem (which will be internationally televised). We are trying to secure a section that would be dedicated to all involved in the "Am Echad/We are one" program.

The Mets are playing the Astros - 1:10 pm game start.
We are considering hiring a bus/busses for group transport.
We have two weeks to secure our section (perhaps out by the Mets homerun apple.  We have to secure a pre-set minimum amount of tickets across the entire community.  The more attendees, the more the Mets will give us (e.g. promo on stadium signs, meet & greet with retired players, photo opps, etc.)

Tickets would be in the $27 to $40 range per person.  Bus tranportation would be extra.

There will be more details as this evolves quickly.

Please let me know if you would be interested in attending and how many seats you would want.  There is no commitment at this time, but I need to get an idea of the interest level from the league.

Upcoming Events - Temple Sholom of Greenwich and FCCJBL Present a Jewish Baseball Roundtable Dicussion...

Temple Sholom of Greenwich and Rabbi Mitch Hurvitz in conjunction with the FCCJBL are planning an October event best described as a Jewish Baseball Roundtable Discussion with former Jewish Major Leaguers:
Art Shamsky, Ron Blomberg and Elliott Maddox

Watch our emails for more details as this event is in the planning stages right now.
